Ride into June: Truckee celebrates Bike Month with events, challenges, and community fun
Staff Report Follow
TRUCKEE, Calif. – The Town of Truckee proudly celebrates the third annual Truckee Bike Month this June, demonstrating its commitment to active transportation, community connection, and environmental sustainability. Bicycling greatly enhances the region’s quality of life and health. Mayor Anna Klovstad will officially proclaim June as “Truckee Bike Month” at the June 9 Town Council meeting.
The proclamation is scheduled to be presented to Tahoe Donner Association, one of Truckee’s largest recreational communities. Tahoe Donner Association plays a major role in the area’s outdoor economy, open-space preservation, and tourism. Its extensive trail network connects riders to some of the region’s most popular mountain biking routes.
This helps make Truckee a premier biking destination.
While the League of American Bicyclists nationally recognizes May as Bike Month, the Truckee/Tahoe region observes Bike Month in June to avoid late-season inclement weather. For the past 20 years, regional partners such as the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency and the Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition have collaborated on a month-long programming series that promotes bicycling for recreation, commuting, and reducing car trips.
Truckee’s bicycle infrastructure, which includes miles of trails, bike lanes, and bike routes, provides year-round access for residents and visitors. By encouraging cycling as a mode of travel, the Town aims to reduce pollution, minimize congestion, limit roadway wear, and foster stronger community connections.
Truckee Bike Month features a variety of community events and challenges designed to engage residents of all ages and skill levels:
- Bike Month Bingo Challenge: Participants can complete a bingo card by participating in various bike-related activities. Activities include exploring a new trail, parking at the bike valet, testing a BCycle pedal-assist e-bike, and riding around Donner Lake. A completed bingo earns a prize and a raffle entry. Finishing the entire card earns an additional raffle entry.
- Bike to School Day takes place on June 5, 2026. Families and students are encouraged to bike to school to celebrate healthy habits and safe cycling practices.
- Truckee Day Bike Path Cleanup: Join Truckee’s 23rd annual town-wide litter cleanup on Saturday, June 6. This year, take part in the added bike path cleanup. Bike to the new DEWBEYÚMUWEɁ Park on West River Street between 9 a.m. and noon on Saturday, June 6, collect supplies and Bike Month swag, and choose any spot along the Legacy Trail to pick up trash.
- Bike Kitchen Maintenance Clinic and Helmet Decorating takes place on June 11, 2026. Customize your helmet or get help with basic repairs and learn some repair skills along the way. Mechanics from the Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition will assist with simple repairs. These include flat tires, crooked wheels, brakes, shifting, stuck or squeaky chains, and seat adjustments. Participants can also help fix donated bikes while learning tune-and-repair skills. Mechanics and decorating
materials will be available at the Truckee Library from 3–5 pm. - Bike Everywhere Day will be held on June 17, 2026. Residents are invited to pledge to ride their bikes for all trips around town. Refuel stations will be available at two locations.
o Eagle Plaza, at the corner of Donner Pass Road and Spring Street, will have a refuel station on June 17, 2026, from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm.
o Bike Truckee, near the Regional Park (10015 Palisades Drive, Suite A4), will offer a refuel station on June 17, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm.
o Participants are encouraged to visit a refuel station for free water refills, air for their tires, and swag! All participants in Bike Everywhere Day will be entered into a raffle.
o Safety remains a top priority throughout the celebration. The Town reminds riders that the speed limit for all devices, including e-bikes, on Truckee paved trails is 15 MPH. Riders should watch for trail conditions, crossings, other users, and observe trail etiquette.
Truckee Bike Month is made possible by the generous support of the Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition, Upcycled Adventures, Coffeebar, Bike Truckee, Truckee Trails Foundation, Start Haus, Visit Truckee-Tahoe, Alibi Ale Works, Keep Truckee Green, and the Town of Truckee Transportation Division.
