TRUCKEE, Calif. – Sierra Community House announced the inaugural “Blue Harvest: United to Nourish,” farm-to-table dinner aimed at supporting local hunger relief efforts. Blue Harvest will take place on Aug. 25 from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at the Dancing Pines venue in Sierraville located at 250 Fibreboard Road. 

This intimate dinner will bring together local talent in food, music, art, and winemaking, all in support of Sierra Community House’s Hunger Relief program, which has historically provided nearly 300,000 meals annually to food-insecure residents.

The event will feature a meticulously crafted five-course meal prepared by renowned chef Meredith Miller Elliott. Known for her culinary expertise and her roles as the tour chef for Metallica and Pearl Jam, Elliott’s dedication to food and community has been a driving force behind this event. Ingredients for the meal will be handpicked by Elliott herself, ensuring a top-tier dining experience for the attendees.

Elliott was introduced to Sierra Community House through another volunteer. She has always believed in the power of food to nourish people and has been involved in various community projects, including feeding firefighters during the Tubbs Fire. “We feel incredibly lucky that she chose us,” Shannon Falker, Director of Operations and Communications at Sierra Community House, said. “She’ll bring the heart to the event.”

“Food is my love language. Food is how we all tell the story of where we’re from, where we’ve traveled, and where we are now. At a long table, we have the chance to come together to form a friendship, tell a story, start a conversation, and cherish the evening. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to cook for you all, in this beautiful place that we live in and love, with the goal of helping others, and to begin a discussion of how we can continue to feed those in our community,” Elliott said.

Guests will also have the opportunity to mingle with local farmers, winemakers, and artisans. At the place settings, there will even be conversation starters. Local musician Ben Fuller will provide live entertainment, and artist Ian Scott will conduct a live painting. The artwork created during the event may be auctioned off or displayed at Sierra Community House. 

“We have this legacy fundraiser, the Chocolate and Wine Festival, which has been happening for 30 years. This feels like an evolution of that type of event—honoring new ways of thinking and offering a more intimate evening,” Falker said. 

The event, priced at $349 per ticket, represents the cost to feed a family of four for two months. “By attending, guests will directly contribute to initiatives that support those in need,” Allison Edwards, Development Director at Sierra Community House, said. With 1 in 10 community members in California facing food insecurity, Sierra Community House’s hunger relief initiatives are vital.

“This is going to be a fun celebratory moment for us. We are facing significant budget cuts and are looking for grant funding. Most of our hunger relief program comes from our general fund and generous community members. It would be good not to have to pull from the general fund,'” Edwards said.
